Sleep bags can help in the fight against SIDS

Children’s brand Little Fishkopp founder Uta Preston discusses how sleep bags make children safer while sleeping

LOS ANGELES—October is dedicated to Safe Sleep and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month. And as it wraps up, Uta Preston, founder of children’s brand Little Fishkopp, is urging parents to take certain precautions when it comes to ensuring their children’s sleep safety. One of these tools is called a sleep bag, which is a key product of her children’s brand.

“Sleep bags are essential to safe sleeping for our little ones, and can help parents feel more secure about their child,” added Preston. “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends sleep sacks because they can’t interfere with babies’ breathing. Little Fishkopp’s sleep bags are not only safer in terms of preventing suffocation and other safety issues that can arise during sleep, but they are also organic and sustainable.”

Every year in the United Sates, approximately 3,500 infants die in dangerous sleep environments and more than 1 of 3 sudden unexpected infant deaths are from SIDS. Unsafe bedding, like loose blankets, remains a leading cause of infant death

“We have to continue raising awareness about safe sleep so that we can prevent these tragic accidents,” said Preston. “Safe sleep and children’s health cannot be taken too seriously. From safe sleep to safe products, we at Little Fishkopp are dedicated to protecting our children.”

Little Fishkopp is certified under the strictest industry standards because of Preston’s dedication to building a conscious, forward-thinking brand. The children’s apparel features sleep bags, t-shirts and other clothing, and is inspired by Preston’s heritage and love of Nordic style and German quality.

“Little Fishkopp products are sustainable and organic, and they live up to the toughest industry standards for certification,” said Preston. “As we head into the holidays, I want to make sure parents know there are options for their children to get warm, comfortable, and safe rest.”

All of Little Fishkopp products carry the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. GOTS is recognized as the world's leading standard for organic textiles. Products that are GOTS certified adhere to rigorous environmental criteria along the entire textile supply chain. This means that in addition to being made from 100% organic cotton with eco-friendly dyes and inks, Little Fishkopp’s products are free of harmful substances such as lead, nickel and phthalates.
