Little Fishkopp was born out of my love for Nordic style and Germany quality. I grew up in northern Germany and spent many summers at the North Sea, building sandcastles, flying kites and biking among the many sheep. That makes me a “Fishkopp.” Despite my love for my homeland, I’ve always had an adventurous spirit. So when I got a chance to play college tennis in the U.S., I packed my bags. That must have been a good call, because many years later, I’m still here – now married with two little Fishköppe of my own.
When my first child was born, I wanted to use the same high-quality sleep bags that I had grown up with in Germany. (Just in case you think I’m making this up, check out the vintage picture of me and my sister in our sleep bags). In Germany, people have been using sleep bags for ages as a practical way to keep their children safe and cozy while sleeping. When I couldn’t find the right products for my little ones, I decided to bring German-style sleep bags to the U.S. So I quit my job in consulting to try my luck in the apparel industry. Given the North Sea is in my blood, I, of course, named my company Little Fishkopp.
While building on the German sleep bag tradition, I also wanted to create a unique niche by focusing on modern Nordic designs and following my passion to build a sustainable and ethical brand leaving as little footprint as possible. Not only is organic cotton better for babies’ sensitive skin, but it's also better for the planet.
Fast forward a few years and while Fishkopp continues to specialize in sleep bags, we’ve expanded our collection to include a wider range of apparel for little ones. Most importantly, I’m proud that we’ve maintained our commitment to creating high-quality, organic clothing.
Little Fishkopp is now based in Los Angeles along the beaches of the South Bay. Although I’ve traded the North Sea for the Pacific Ocean, beach life has been a constant influence and source of inspiration. Nevertheless, I do miss my roots, and I frequently travel back home to see family and seek out ideas for new collections.
