What safety standards apply to Little Fishkopp sleep bags?
A U.S. product safety standard specifically for sleep bags has not yet been established. However, as a garment worn on top of sleepwear, Little Fishkopp sleep bags comply with U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) clothing standards. The tog rating (a measure of warmth) for Little Fishkopp sleep bags are validated through third-party testing based on the British Standard BS 8510:2009. This same standard was also used as a guide in the development of measurements for neck openings for Little Fishkopp sleep bags. In addition, Little Fishkopp sleep bags are certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), meaning the fabric and filling are made from 100% organic cotton; they are free from harmful substances such as lead, nickel and phthalates; and they are produced under strict social criteria for employment and working conditions.

All of our Little Fishkopp sleep bags carry the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. GOTS is recognized as the world's leading standard for organic textiles. Products that are GOTS certified adhere to rigorous environmental criteria along the entire textile supply chain. This means that in addition to being made from 100% organic cotton with eco-friendly dyes and inks, our sleep bags are free of harmful substances such as lead, nickel and phthalates. Furthermore, GOTS certification requires compliance with social criteria regarding employment and working conditions, so our sleep bags promote sustainability for people, as well as the planet.
What is a sleep bag?
A sleep bag is a wearable blanket designed for infants and toddlers. It should be worn over regular sleepwear. Because sleep bags can’t be kicked off or pulled over the face, they allow little ones to sleep safely and comfortably throughout the night. The better a baby sleeps, the better parents sleep.
Why use a sleep bag?
An appropriately sized baby sleep bag creates a safer sleep environment, particularly for infants. Loose blankets can easily cover an infant’s face, which can obstruct breathing and increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests blankets and other loose bedding should be kept out of a baby’s sleep environment; therefore, wearable blankets are the preferred solution to keeping your baby warm at night. In addition, because sleep bags can’t be kicked off like loose blankets, your baby remains snug and warm. Sleep bags also become part of the bedtime routine. Putting on a sleep bag sends a signal to your child that it is time to sleep.
What makes Little Fishkopp sleep bags unique?
Little Fishkopp sleep bags offer a unique blend of safety, functionality and style. Manufactured from 100% super soft organic cotton and certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Little Fishkopp sleep bags help to create a warm, breathable and safe sleep environment for infants and toddlers. Our sleep bags are made without synthetic fabrics or filling and are designed with convenient features such as reversible zippers that makes them easy to take on and off; zip guards to keep your child’s skin away from zippers; and plenty of room around the legs and feet to provide warmth and security without your baby feeling constrained or overheating. Our sleep bags are available in three sizes to accommodate children from 0 to 36 months in age. They come in a range of designs with distinctive, bright colors that make bedtime fun.
Why don’t Little Fishkopp sleep bags have sleeves?
Baby sleep bags are sleeveless to provide ventilation and reduce the risk of overheating. The lack of sleeves also enables a sleep bag to be worn with a variety of sleepwear options to accommodate different room temperatures.
What size Little Fishkopp sleep bag is appropriate for my infant or toddler?
The selection of an appropriately sized Little Fishkopp sleep bag for your child is a function of her weight and length/height. Please use our size chart to help guide your selection. Please note that infants should weigh at least 9lbs (4kg) before they start using a Little Fishkopp sleep bag (size: small).
What is a Tog rating, and which Tog rating is appropriate for my infant or toddler?
A Tog rating is a measure of the warmth of fabric, garments or bedding. The higher the tog rating, the warmer the sleep bag. Little Fishkopp sleep bags come in two Tog ratings: Lightweight (1.0 tog) and Standard (2.5 tog). Please use our tog chart to help guide your selection.
Why are Little Fishkopp sleep bags so much longer than my child?
Little Fishkopp sleep bags are designed to provide warmth without causing your child to feel constrained. The length allows your child to wiggle around in the sleep bag and also allows ventilation to reduce the risk of overheating. As long as your child’s head is large enough not to slip down into the neck opening, the bag is safe to use. Please use our size chart for additional information on selecting an appropriately size Little Fishkopp sleep bag.
How is a Little Fishkopp sleep bag worn?
A Little Fishkopp sleep bag is worn like a vest. The sleep bag is opened by unzipping the bag from bottom to top and laying the open bag in the crib. The baby is laid down on his back on top of the open bag, and his arms are inserted through the arm openings on either side. The baby’s legs are then inserted into the bottom of the bag, and the bag is closed by zipping the bag from top to bottom. Fastening the safety snap at the bottom of the zipper helps to keep little hands from unzipping the bag during the night.
When can infants start using a Little Fishkopp sleep bag?
Infants should weigh at least 9lbs (4kg) before they start using a Little Fishkopp sleep bag in the small size. Larger sizes can be used as your child grows. Please use our size chart to help guide your selection.
What should my child wear underneath a Little Fishkopp sleep bag?
Little Fishkopp sleep bags are designed to be used over regular sleepwear. The appropriate sleep wear to use underneath our sleep bags depends on the room temperature and the Tog rating of your sleep bag. Please see our guidance on selecting appropriate sleepwear to use with your Little Fishkopp sleep bag. And remember never use blankets, sheets or other bedding with a baby sleep bag.
Can I use other blankets or bedding with a sleep bag?
No. Under no circumstances should loose sheets, blankets or other bedding be used in conjunction with a Little Fishkopp sleep bag. If you are concerned that your child may be too cold, please check that your child has appropriate sleepwear underneath the sleep bag. Please see our guidance on selecting appropriate sleepwear.
How many sleep bags do I need?
In order to always have a sleep bag ready for your child to wear, it is useful to have at least two sleep bags so that one can be used while the other is being washed. This is particularly important for infants who need to be changed during the night.
